Have been to the one in Columbia, so was expecting the same experience here. Needless to say this location is MUCH better than the one in Columbia. It is divided up oddly, the seating seems to be a bit willy nilly, but whatever, lets get to the FOOD!!! We sat at the back (?) bar, very nicely lit, not too dark, not too bright. Beautiful dark woods make up most of the place, which I absolutely love. We ordered the Cuban sandwich special and the Mahi Taco special. They had a great array of beers on tap, which is always nice. The food, was amazing!!! I am not a huge fan of Cuban sandwiches, but this - this sandwich once i bit into it, i was willing to fight for!!! I allowed the bf to have a bite or two, but I was fiercely protective :) The mahi tacos were also delicious, as we usually have these at some of the mexi places we go to - I thought they held their own against our fav mexi places mahi tacos. Which is saying a lot. Service was fast and attentive. I think the front area bar has trivia a few nights during the week. and seems to be geared more towards those wanting a 'family' type booth experience. Coming back here for the Cuban !!!

I was there for Colleen J. and Dave C.'s goodbye party. The party definitely made me want to come back. The atmosphere was relaxed, they had a nice selection of wine, liquor, and beer on tap; but most importantly, the wait staff was very friendly and knew their menu.

There are few things that make me happier than a well cooked piece of beef and that's what takes Liberty Taperoom to a Five rating. I got the beef tenderloin medallions and they were cooked perfectly and so tender. I have never had a better cooked/quality served beef than that - bar none and that's saying a lot. Everything else was great. Including the delicious and mouth watering Mac and cheese. We ordered the corn cakes as an appetizer and being someone who loves all things cornbread, they were great. Perfect size and price. I feel overall the menu offers variety and it's not too pricey. There was a specials menu as well. The only downsides were the football crowd in the bar area(Saturday night, college football??) - but we were in the dining room so not horrible. And the place was kind of empty but we are also having dinner late and sitting in the dining room so take that for what you will. Sam our server was fun and cool. Will def recommend this spot to people who visit Charleston.

I really like Liberty Tap Room and try to go whenever I am in Mt. Pleasant. It is nice and big on the inside and they also have outdoor seating. This weekend was the first time I have gone during Brunch and it was great! They have a large Brunch menu and best of all, Bloody Marys for $2.50! The have a good variety of food - salads, burgers, sandwiches, seafood, pizza, pasta and ribs. I really like their burgers, Wasabi Tuna Sandwich, Salmon BLT and Hawaiian Chopped Salad. The mac and cheese is just right (go ahead and get a side of it, no matter what else you are ordering)!

Always a sold place to go to try a new beer or two. Great set up with just enough tv's on a game day. They have such a great setup but the place is always dead...no idea why. Great prices on drinks and the food is amazing as well. Definitely recommend, can just be dead often... Food wise, try the ahi tuna sandwich. Drink wise...the bloody manny!

Liberty Tap room is another of charlestons hidden gems... The staff are some of the most passionate & knowledgable beer misters I have meet. Don't sit at the bar as the service is the worst. Seriously the girls have no idea of customer service. The beer selection changes daily & is such a long list you widow have to start on a Monday to work your way though it. Ask for samples the guys are dedicated to you getting the right favour for you. Food is amazing too. One of my top 5 places in CHS

I used to go to the Myrtle Beach location when I lived up there so I knew what to expect out of liberty from the get go. I've been to this location plenty of times and never had a bad experience. My alumni group does a yearly happy hour in Charleston and we've done a couple of them here too. Recently, I was helping my friends wife put together a small surprise birthday party for him. I was so happy to hear that they don't even charge for use of the upstairs room. They give you the option of food packages if you want but we ordered off of the regular menu. Plus they let us bring in a cake that his wife had specially made down the street. When we arrived, we found out that some family members out of town were not going to be able to make it so we asked to move some of the tables/chairs out of the way. The entire staff was 100% accommodating and even helped us set up. I can't thank them enough for all their help. We were able to have a nice surprise party in a private area without having to pay all this extra money to reserve a room or order off of a special menu. The food was great too! Something about the Caprese salad I had was better than most I've had in the past. I couldn't stop eating it and am now craving another. Don't forget the beer either. Their house beer is alright but they also have thirty something taps with a pretty decent selection. Pro Tip: ask about large format bottles that they might have. I scored a couple Stone Vertical Epic 12.12.12's (very rare beer) just because I asked and nobody else did.

I love Liberty. The tap room reminds me of the dark cozy wooden yacht club bars I grew up with in 70's Connecticut; (no view of the Sound - instead a view of the pond and Chick-fil-a drive through line). When it's warm out, they roll open the huge garage door type windows by each booth and the Tap Room becomes very outdoorsy. Great revolving beer on tap selection and awesome $5 happy hour appetizers. Try the Freedom burger or the Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich. There was a period where the staff was a little ornery, but that seems to have been rectified recently.

Another great spot to stop for a good meal. I had the freedom burger the other day (burger with cheddar, bacon and a fried egg. It was really good. Normally when you get a fried egg on the burger it isn't cooked correctly. Well they nailed it. I subbed fries for their mac and cheese bc I'd heard it was really good, and yep, the rumors were correct. Good stuff. The setup is really open, with a large round bar in the middle accompanied by booths surrounding. I was surprised they didn't have more TVs but they definitely have a few. They have a dining room if you don't want to be near the hustle and bustle of the bar as well. The bar as a huge draft selection... and really good drafts at that. I was super surprised to find they had both Chimay and Delirium on tap at the same time when I'd first moved down. They also brew their own beers, and their brews are pretty solid. Monday's - dollar draft day on all draft beer. So not only are you getting a steal for $1 beers... but they're GOOD beers too.

Great food. And great atmosphere. The wings are awesome. And the beer section is very good. Nice out open bar too for those nice days. Great food. Get there.

A great selection of beers and happy hour lasts until seven. Met with a couple of friends here for dinner and ordered stuff off their happy hour menu where the items were about five dollar each. You can order off that meanu up til seven o'clock. We ordered some wings and nachos which were good. My friend really enjoyed their beer selection. For a bar, it was kind of quiet but a great addition to the Charleston food scene. The service was great!

We went here for Happy Hour and had a great time. Great selection of beer and $5 appetizers. The bartenders all three were friendly and attentive. What surprised me was how friendly the other patrons were. We loved the pizza but the nachos were just OK

  • Jenny M.

We went for happy hour today (Wed, 4-7) and had the grilled wings, fried pickles and great beer! The service was also fast and friendly! Great experience! We will be back!

Great atmosphere on a nice afternoon but beware of late afternoon serving experience...we just dined here and received very little service, assuming our server was spread too thin. Fish and chips, blue chz salad wedge all good but the nachos left a good bit to be desired (they are usually amazing)

I'm not sure why this place currently only has 3.5 stars as I had nothing to complain about whatsoever. We came to watch NFL on a Sunday afternoon/evening. The happy hour deals for food were amazing. We couldn't try everything so we're coming back next week!

Usually have to go downtown for parking this bad, but here's a tip: the lot connects to the shopping center behind Liberty...just walk in at the bar from the patio. There are always specials & a huge beer selection. One thing, however, really sets this place apart - their Kaminsky's desserts! I just wish they had a cot & sleeping bag so I could nap it all off.

Went for trivia. The overall experience was underwhelming. The parking lot for Liberty is WAY to small. We ended up parking in the Publix parking lot next door and walked in through the back entrance to find a restaurant that was hardly 1/2 full. After navigating our way to the front, we took up a seat at the bar and appreciated the well decorated interior and impressive selection of draft beers. The bar tender was friendly and attentive. Fast forward to the trivia. We transitioned to the room dedicated to the activity, which had its own bar with a wicked cool granite top and all the regular taps you could want. A overly frazzled bar tender took our drink orders. We were all confused when she left the area to the main bar to pour us 3 drafts. When she returned she informed us that she "wasn't allowed" to use the taps at the back bar (where we were) because it wasted beer and that we would have to settle for long delays if we desired anything other than bottles. Odd...but OK. I ordered a burger and my friend got the Philly cheese steak.. Mine was ordered Medium, it came out well, but still tasted pretty good. My friend's Philly looked amazing, and he claimed it tasted just as good. The trivia wasn't all that great. They didn't have enough space for everyone and the host seemed like she hated every moment of the event. We lost, so maybe that factors into the equation, but I don't think I'll give trivia there another shot.

Liberty Tap Room sometimes gets overlooked. Yes, it's part of a larger chain and it happens to be located on a side street in Mt. Pleasant and not in downtown Charleston. What people need to remember though is that they have a pretty killer beer list and the best damn ribs in town. There are a lot of other foods that I enjoy at Liberty- juicy burgers, big salads, crazy nachos and yummy Kaminsky's desserts, but the ribs are where it's at. Charleston is a great place for BBQ but I will admit that ribs are not the forte here. The places that carry them just don't get it right. Ribs should be big, meaty and so tender that the meat comes clean off the bone. You shouldn't have to gnaw for 2 minutes to get a tiny little bit of meat that you then have to chew for another minute before you can actually swallow. They come in half or full slabs and with a side of french fries or mac 'n' cheese you will definitely not leave hungry. Other bonuses about Liberty is that they are a great place for having large groups or parties, the kitchen is open late, and they have lots of TV's, including big screens, in the bar area so you can watch whatever you want. If that doesn't float your boat you can always step outside and view the turtles and water birds that are hanging out in the pond year round.

Had really great service and the food was up there too! Would love to go back when it's warmer and it's all open air! Lots of selection and variety on drinks and food.

The food at brunch was really not good at all. - the deviled eggs were terrible, they tasted sour. - the boiled peanut hummus was just not good at all- we ordered it because we love boiled peanuts and we love hummus but it just did NOT work together. When the waitress asked if we liked it we were honest and she said she hears a lot that people don't like it. Well then she should have warned us or just take it off the menu! - the liberty omelette was pretty good but that is hard to mess us. I ordered my omelette with home fries but they sent grits, i told her i wanted home fries and they brought out grits AGAIN! I finally got my home fries and they were pretty good. - the bloody marys and mimosas were good and very reasonably priced. - our waitress was so un-attentive! She seemed like she was very young and did not know what she was doing. By the end of our brunch our table was filled with empty glassware, she did not clear one glass! And to top off the poor service she spilled a full glass of water on my friends lap and only comped (1) beer for that mistake. I may return for just drinks at the bar but I will not eat there again. I was highly dissapointed.

After visiting the Myrtle Beach location on a trip, my mother declared the crab cake the best that she had ever had, so when we found ourselves in Mt Pleasant staying nearby, we thought it would be a treat. I should have checked the menu - no crab cakes at this location. But if you want a place where the waitstaff outnumber the customers, this is a good stop. On a Saturday evening around 6:00, the place was pretty empty. The parking lot is pretty small and several lights were out along the building, making it a very dark trip to the front door. While the lot was pretty full, the inside was relatively empty (maybe most folks were at the bar). Mom and I both ordered the steak sandwich with fries and both agreed that they were fine. The meat was flavored okay, though a bit tough. Bread was nice and soft, onions were well cooked (I got mine without mushrooms). I liked the ketchup that seemed to have a bit of BBQ sauce in it, maybe? Fries were good. I got a piece of the tollhouse cookie pie for dessert. I think I saw a Kaminsky's sign somewhere, so I am guessing that is where it came from. It tasted pretty darn good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. The waitress... was horrible. She seemed like she wanted to be anywhere other than there. The manager stopped by our table luckily, so I was able to get some mayo, since she was M.I.A. standing around with the rest of the wait staff just inside of the kitchen. With such a light crowd, I would be super nice to the tables that I did get to improve my tips for the evening. Sighs and eye rolls aren't required. The food was fine, but with so many other restaurants in the area, I wouldn't make a special trip.

Wow, usually Liberty Tap Room doesn't disappoint, however last night they did. Not sure what was going on with our waiter, it's not like he was busy. It took 30 minutes for our drinks, we had to ask for water. He was visibly frazzled and extraordinarily slow. It's bad when you have to get a manager to ask for another glass of wine. The manager was good about making sure we were taken care of but he did not represent the restaurant very well in his appearance. The food was at least warm, however, the ribeye was extra fatty and the sautéed spinach had an extreme aftertaste and was very gritty, like it had not been washed well.

Try the mojo wings! They are dry rubbed and double fried. Not on the new menu anymore but you can still get them! Ahhhhh mazing!!!!! Great selection of craft beers on tap. Wonderful happy hour deals and a great brunch as well!

Just tried the Liberty Burger and the trio dip and chips. The atmosphere is comfortable to the eyes, but the temperature was extremely cold. However, that was manageable. Overall, we enjoyed the feel. The food was delicious, but nothing reinvented. For the type of establishment, it's the normal quality and taste range. I still rate it high! From a glance, they have TONS of beer on draft! All kinds and types! Some are definitely unique. I recommend this place to anyone!

The food was decent, the staff friendly enough. It kind of has a chain feel to it. Fortunately the food I wanted was available (as they run out sometimes). They had some local brews on tap which is a plus. The downsides: The service... I waited for a while with bartenders not scanning the bar for some hot sauce and utensils. Fortunately, a manager passed by after a few minutes and asked if I needed anything. He fixed my dilemma... sorry, I don't eat with my hands. I didn't have one bartender, rather the two took turns. I wasn't a fan of this as I felt like neither really decided to take on the responsibility. I felt like one would let me sit for the other. (primarily brown haired girl). She also seemed to judge people at the bar. It was strange and not as welcoming as most bartenders.

Love this bar. Great specials all the time! $3 all drafts on Monday night. Loads of beer on tap!

This restaurant is just ok, not really worth the time or the money. I went there twice, the first time we say in the bar area and had much better service and food; the second time we sat in the dining room and both the service and food were awful. My husband ordered the nachos which I wouldn't give my dog, when asked about the pizza the manager compared it to Dominos (really?! Who does/says that?).. Needless to say we will not be going back.

I created a yelp account just to make this review. My boyfriend and I were JUST here for lunch. Our service was ridiculous. As a server, I sat back and waited to see if service got any better. The restaurant wasn't busy, there were no signs of our server being weeded or over sat. She simply paid more attention to the family and older couple around us. It took 15 minutes for my boyfriend to get a beer because the server forgot to ring it in, the manager had to bring us plates with our appetizer and once our food arrived she grazed past our table to ask how the food was without hesitating for a response. I get that younger couples might not seem like the type to tip, but as a fellow f&b employee, I always tip 25-50%. While she appeared in no hurry for the duration of our meal, once I asked for the check it arrived in a heart beat. I didn't even know her name until I got the check and read it off the receipt. Our server's name was Anna. The food was fantastic, so I still tipped 20%. Next time I'll be ordering curbside, I would be ashamed to know that this kind of service was being dished out at the restaurant I work at.

Wait staff is friendly. Food is great. Plenty of different beers on tap. Great happy hour. Plenty of room to stretch your legs. I have nothing negative to say about this place. Grab a burger or an app, pick a beer, and enjoy!

I've been to the Tap Room on many, many occasions. My favorite time to visit is in late spring, early summer and late fall...because they open the garage door style windows and its amazing to sit in there with a nice breeze. It feels like sitting outside but without the bugs, or the blazing sun. This location used to be T-Bonz which is part of the same restaurant group as Liberty and Kaminsky's. I like it much better as Liberty than I ever did as T-Bonz. There are a number of great things that Liberty does well, but top amongst them is their burgers. Hand ground in-house and cooked to order. They don't advertise this, but if you ask, you can get pimento cheese on your burger. It's amazing! Their nachos are awesome as well, but ask for them to go light on the queso or to put it on the side, otherwise the chips get soggy pretty quickly. I almost always order a caprese salad or a fresh fruit and mixed greens salad. Really fresh and really good. They usually have a few desserts from Kaminsky's as well and are usually excellent. The location is really good and they have some really creative martinis as well. Often times they run some beer specials, especially during/after the Cooper River Bridge Run. Liberty is a old tried and true stand-by and we usually hit them up when we are in Mt. P craving a burger.

So, first - the food is great. Like, really great. The ceviche is amazing, and totally unexpected. I had the Taproom Burger, which had goat cheese, roasted red peppers, and caramelized onions, and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The atmosphere is pretty good with a couple big bar spaces up front, and a large seating area in the back, which is where most of the families are sat. The music they play is right up my alley, with the majority being classic rock. They also have an awesome looking exposed tap room, with all their kegs stacked and on display. Unfortunately, for a place that bills itself as 'A Beer Lovers Dream,' I was very disappointed with the draught beer selection. I was expecting a rather deep list of good beers, but the majority were macroswill of the Bud, Miller, Coors variety, albeit, more of the Blue Moon/Shock Top variety. I saw a Chimay, a Stone, a DogFish Head, but nothing that would interest me. Also, when I tried to get a Liberty Porter, I was told that it wasn't on tap yet, as they were waiting for some awful Goose Island keg to kick. Hence, three stars. If the beer list was better, they'd have gotten a much higher rating, based on their food alone, but it just really was bland.

We arrived at 2:25 pm and the place was a ghost town. There were people sitting in the bar area and outside. We were the only people sorted in the restaurant area. The waiter came about two minutes later, took our drink orders, and brought the drinks back. The problem was he never came back to take out order. We waited almost 15 minutes, placed a few dollars on the table and left. We will never come back.

Liberty is truly a hidden gem in Mt. Pleasant. It is off 17 and Anna Knapp behind a huge pond and is not really visible from 17, which I think explains why nearly all patrons are probably regulars or have been before. Anyway, this place is awesome. They have a constantly rotating selection of 48 draft beers, many of which are from breweries in Charleston and others around SC, NC, and GA. Seeing people in Liberty ordering a bottled Bud Light makes me cringe, considering there are so many gustatorily superior options, but they do indeed have the lackluster beers like Coors Light, PBR, etc. for people who prefer to make horrible decisions. $3 pint night on Mondays can't be beat. Same goes for $2.50 bloody mary's, mimosas, etcetera all day on Sundays. Happy hour is 7 days a week from 4-7, during which there exists a special happy hour menu consisting of awesome $5 items. Most of the food at Liberty easily exceeds expectations. Ingredients are fresh and real, unlike Applebees, Longhorn, and the like. The head chef Steven creates some interesting, tasty dishes and sauces. They also have Kaminskys desserts, which are fantastic. I would highly suggest the Jerk Chicken and Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, and always add a side of mac n cheese. Liberty is great for events and parties, since the place is huge and has multiple areas, including a private upstairs area. The taproom is very nice when the garage door windows are open to let the air and sunshine in, or you can sit in the dining room for a quieter time. Outdoor patio seating is good, too. Go for any televised sports event also since there are about a thousand TV's, including a huge projector screen in the raw bar area where my comrades and I watched all the USA World Cup matches. Staff at Liberty are friendly and cool. They really make you feel welcome and won't judge you if you drink bottled Bud Light. Adrienne is pleasant and always smiling. Kathryn is nice and makes the best Mai Tai's. Melissa is very cool and has great taste in music. Georgia is like a proton - always positive. Monet never fails to make you laugh with some weird crazy story, told in a northern accent. Steven K is a professional server and a professional human, possessing a seemingly infinite knowledge about food, beer, and anything. When Mike is there, you get the pleasure of hearing music from the likes of Widespread Panic, Phish, and more, which really adds to the experience. Everyone has told me they love the jam band music and no one understands why they ever play anything else. Hostesses seem to come and go all the time - perhaps because they get lost in the vastness of the restaurant and are never seen again - so don't get attached. The wait staff work extremely hard to make sure you have an enjoyable experience, and if something goes wrong, they will do whatever they can to make it right. I can honestly say I have never had to complain once during any of my countless visits. I perused some of the lower-star reviews, which I will now address. Someone said the craft beers are overpriced. I challenge anyone to find cheaper craft beers in Charleston. Someone mentioned the area behind the bar being "cluttered." I have to assume this person had never previously been to a bar, since all behind-bar areas look more or less the same; glasses, liquors, fruits, mixers, condiments, ice boxes, and cash registers take up physical space. Moreover, the area behind the bar neither affects the patron nor his or her space at the bar, of which there is plenty. Someone suggested visiting Red Drum instead of Liberty. That comment is nonsensical; the two are incomparable. Five Loaves and Liberty are also incomparable. Someone suggested a fish special entree should have included a bowl of soup free of charge simply because they ran out of one type of fish, a notion so absurd that it's laughable. Perhaps the aforementioned simply drink bottled Bud Light. I would prefer to keep Liberty my little secret so that it doesn't get too crowded - like listening to a good indie band before they make it big and change their sound - but, as a highly influential, well-respected citizen of Mt. Pleasant, I know this review will garner attention from many potential patrons and pertinent publications. Enjoy.

I can't choose how to rate this place. I would say 4-5 stars because great brunch, cool atmosphere, awesome bar/chill area but also nice dining areas, and a pretty outdoor deck. I don't remember what I had for brunch but I do know I loved it and everyone around me was loving theirs as well. I want to say 2 stars, however, for one bad experience but I'm trying not to judge on that. Our schools alumni group was hosting at liberty and they just didn't seem accommodating. It may have been our alumni groups fault also BUT even the waitresses at the bar were Being snotty when it came to any questions. It put me off for a solid six months of not going back. Other then that one time -- I have always enjoyed myself at liberty, food has always been great and prices reasonable.

Wow, the food here is great! So many beer selections and steaks that are some of the best I've ever had. Servers are friendly and attentive. When asking about beers, we had suggestion made by our server , who quickly brought several sample glasses. We settled on a pomegranate ale that was fantastic. Just a little tart with some nice kick to it. We had the nacho trio for starters. This was a trio of queso dip, fresh pico and last but not least, pimento cheese. I grew up eating pimento cheese, however my wife never touched the stuff in her youth. I asked her to try some, and she was an instant fan. So cheesy, it was hard to put it down. Next we all got the 8 oz Filet with Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, and fresh steamed broccoli. The steaks were tender, cooked to order and almost too much to eat for supper. We finished up with the Rocky Road Cheesecake(to go) after raving about how great the meal was, could the dessert be just as good? Well, I have to tell you, as a fan of cheesecake, I have to say , where have you been all my life? Hands down, this mix of chocolate, nuts and a base of dark chocolate crust, was the best cheesecake I had ever had. Very rich and tasty. Just perfect to share with your special someone. I would go back to eat at Liberty Tap Room again. And might try several of there craft brews and some more of their delicious entrees. Well done LTR!

Horrible service. Brown lettuce. Empty water glasses and a view to the kitchen of the waitstaff indulging in food. On the other hand The sandwiches and French fries were actually pretty good as well as there general atmosphere of the dining room.

Group of 6 of us stopped in for a quick bite. Pretty big place - we were concerned at first by the number of cars in the lot, but there was plenty of tables available. Lots of good beer on tap, as you would expect. Food was good - not great. We had salads and burgers mostly. All nicely priced. Service was just OK. Either our waitress didn't hear our appetizer order or didn't write it down or forgot. I'd go again!

I LOVED this place. I loved the atmosphere, excellent tunes - 70s and 80s rock so think Eagles and the like - really freaking good music. Our server was Joe and he was attentive without being overbearing - that perfect blend of availability. I got the Charleston cocktail and that packed a wallop - and I loved it. JR C. was less than pleased with their beer selection, as wide as it was, as it played a little safe. We had the shrimp ceviche and it was DELICIOUS - I should have just ordered two of those! I had the caprese salad with grilled chicken and it was also delicious. You can tell everything is house made - I can't wait to go back and sit outside. Enough with this cold, rainy weather, Charleston!

We visited the Tap Room 2 times in our short visit to the Charleston area. The first night we were greeted promptly and our order taken also in a timely manner. My husband Doug and myself both ordered the Blackened shark with fried green tomatoes & pineapple salsa. It was excellent and very well thought out. Our daughter had a salad and macaroni and cheese. The kitchens timing was off and after 2 bites of salad our entrees were brought out. The manager stopped by and asked if there was a problem and we said no, the food was fine. We did see him talking to the waiter and then the waiter approached us and asked if anything was wrong. We are wondering what is up?? We did tell the waiter that the entrees were brought out minutes after our salads, but the food was fine. The manager then returned and apologized and offered to make it up to us and bought us dessert. Excellent customer service. I hope the kitchen got their hands slapped for their timing. Naughty naughty. Gordon Ramsey would have reamed them. So we ordered the Pecan bourbon pie with vanilla ice cream. It was very good and baked on site by Kaminsky's Baking Co @ Liberty. Our second visit was a bit different. We were seated immediately but then found ourselves sitting there for 5 minutes at least until a waitress greeted us. When she was getting our drinks we kept feeling water dropping on us and discovered it was from the air-conditioning and we asked to be moved and were. (Someone else was seated in our old seats and had same problem. Management needs to do something about the problem & not seat people there. No one wants condensation on themselves or their food.) As for the food it was terrific. Doug ordered the local fried shrimp and they were plump and tasted fantastic. Our daughter ate the special chicken quesadilla and it was good but hot. The jalapeno's had a kick to them. I had the fish and chips and was very happy with my choice. During the visits we did try several of the local beers and were pleased. If we were locals we would come back to Liberty and will recommend to friends that visit the area.

This is a pretty good bar and restaurant. A fairly large variety of draft beer but most of it are the micro brewed variety with no domestics on tap. That's a bummer. The food is pretty good too. Some of the sandwiches are kind of weak like the steak and cheese. If you order a hamburger, order it pretty rare or it will come out and be as dry as sawdust. The fish tacos on Fridays are absolutely delicious.

For a non-bar girl, this place is fantastic with nice art and an upscale wood and leather interior. The restaurant is just back from the main road and surrounded by water. We were looking for a late night bite and Yelp said they were open til 2AM. Unfortunately the kitchen closes at 10PM. The staff was wonderful and accommodated us anyway. I ordered an easy salad so we would not be an issue. The caprese salad was fantastic and the brown butter cornbread melted in my mouth. Charleston is known for nice people, but I honestly do not remember ever having nicer restaurant staff cater to me and make us feel welcome. We sat in the bar by the open windows and listened to the Bob Marley tunes. It is unfortunate they do to have a late night menu and the energy of the bar dies down after 10, but it is a great find!

They get four stars for the beers. The service and the food would knock off 1/2 to 1 star. Every time we've been the place has been empty so we sat at the bar which was slightly more busy. The service is just ok and I've heard people complaining about the table service. I've had some of the apps which were just ok - good for happy hour. The best thing is happy hour where local beers (SC, NC, and GA) are a couple of dollars.

This is my favorite place to get a burger on Tuesdays! On Tuesdays they have a special where any burger is only $6. Where can you find that today? The burger you get is the exact same on you would get if you came any other day and paid $10. Last night I went here for dinner and was very happy with the service that I received. My party was very slow to order our food, but the waitress was very patient with us. Once we ordered the food came out promptly and was nice and hot. I ordered french fries as an appetizer and the Freedom burger and side of mac & cheese for my entree. Everything was delicious! I also am a huge fan of the bar here. It has to be one of the coolest bars in Mount Pleasant! It can get a little loud but if you are going to a bar you should be expecting that anyways. Oh and I almost forgot the best part! The desserts here are made by kaminskys, they are a local bakery that has some of the best desserts in the area.

Great place. Huge huge building and great location. They overcooked my burger pretty bad but since I never complained I can't really knock them for it. The calamari app was on point. The service was incredibly friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended for a fun happy hour or casual dinner.

This place is SO good! The peel and eat shrimp served here is one of the best I have ever had! I have eaten here multiple times and each time the shrimp has been amazing. Also, the guys like the nachos and the pepperoni pizza. I've had the pizza, and yes I crave it too! Sit in the bar, if it is nice they open the big doors so it is a cool outside/inside vibe.

I was pleasantly surprised by Liberty. The bar is very large and spacious and each day offers specials from beer to bloody marys. The menu is traditional bar and grill food and the staff is very friendly. For a traditional bar and grill that is clean and friendly, this is a nice dining choice.

  • Chris G.

The staff is terrible, definately NOT friendly at all. Little over priced for the service you get. This place could be such much better. Tons of seating, nice bar area with Tv's but don't expect to get much out of it from a "place to watch a game." The only reason I go back is because it's close and they have a good selection of beer on tap. After I get food and a drink , I'm ready to leave. This place needs to find a better way to seperate the family groups that "just want to dine," in and those who want to watch a game and grab a beer. Too many policies quoted from management.

Probably one of my favorite happy hours in all of the Greater Charleston area. Mondays are $3 for all drafts including craft beer all day long. If you have nothing to wake up for on Tuesday I would highly suggest this. The food is also not half bad. The appetizers are ok. I don't think they're worth the money, but the food is great.

Starving and exhausted after a day of scuba diving, we decided to check this place out. We saw an ad that it's part of a family of local restaurants and touts a farm to table approach. With that in mind, we foolishly thought that the pretzels we'd ordered would be homemade, but they were just the kind you get at any ball game. Husband ordered the Freedom burger and I got the house salad add steak. When the burger came out sans fried egg, we called the waitress over. She argued that we had ordered the Liberty burger. Ok well then show us where you wrote that down, oh that's right, you didn't write anything down. One of my peeves is when a waitress doesn't write the order down, because the order almost always comes out wrong. We just didn't have any fight left in us to argue with her. Salad had store bought croutons. Also struggled to get refills on drinks. We downed our food and got the heck out of there. Definitely not the "farm to table" restaurant we are used to. Never again.

We were there last night for a small company Christmas dinner. Everything was perfect. The wait staff were helpful and prompt and the food was out of this world! Can't wait to go back again.

Bad service at the bar. I guess you have to be a regular. We weren't given beer lists and were not informed on the new beers that were on. We weren't given a specials menu. My husband finished his beer and the bartender girl took the glass and walked away. My husband had to wave her down for another beer while she was deep in conversation with a "regular". She then charged us for an extra beer and when we told her she fixed it and then tossed the clipboard with the bill at us. If we do go back we will sit at a table. The servers there do a good job and the food is good too. Just don't sit at the bar.

Liberty is an Americana/ Steak/Seafood grill with a cool location just off the main drag in Mt. Pleasant. 1/3 of the place is a raw bar with a large selection of fresh oysters on ice offered in 1/2 and full dozen. They also keep a display case with a large variety of deserts from Kaminsky's to pick from. 1/3 is a large dining room, and 1/3 is a bar area. The bar sits literally out over a pond and when the weather is nice they can open up a number of large garage doors to make it an indoor/outdoor place. They keep a ton of revolving beers on tap which are usually pretty interesting. The menu has a nice mix of foods and everything is fairly reasonably priced. Food is pretty good but not amazing. Best bet is to hit up $3 draft night on Mondays. Any and all drafts are only $3 so you can get some high dollar stuff on the cheap! Great spot to grab a pint or have an upscale dinner!

The food was really good - I had the fried chicken breast platter and my friend had the fish and chips - we shared - both excellent. The beer is their own brew and it was cold and tasty. The bar area is the best place to eat.

  • Jamie S.

Probably my favorite spot to eat. We always dine early, so while the bar is busy and loud, the dining area is quiet. Our servers have always been attentive without hovering. The menu is small, but everything we've tried has been tasty. My favorite is the fried chicken breast. Go on Tuesdays for $6 burgers! Also, be sure to finish off your meal with some Kaminsky's Tollhouse Pie and ice cream!

One word sums up the fare here. Fresh! I've been pleasantly surprised with the food here. The shrimp ceviche is delicious and the chicken nachos are fresh, tasty and plentiful. I have to say, it has come a long way from when it first opend. I had vowed not to go back after several dissapointing meals. Thankfully, they have turned it aroud.

Returned for another soccer game. This time the girlfriend and I had full meals; both were excellent. The burger with carmelized onions and blue cheese was served on brioche buns and came with a side of skin-on fries. The (1/2 rack) rib & (1/4) chicken combo came with a side of blue cheese coleslaw. The ribs were smoky, spicy, and fell off the bone. The chicken came with a mango "salsa" sprinkled on top, which made for a very nice presentation in addition to adding a fruity, sweetness to the BBQ spice. The cole slaw was made with real blue cheese, not just goopy salad dressing. We also had dessert. I had a wonderful creme brulee, loaded with real vanilla beans. My girlfriend had a very good key lime pie. Perhaps not as sublime as some others in town, but rich in flavor without being too tart or heavy. We were impressed to discover a couple of things about the place we didn't notice last time. It has an upstairs seating area and, one of the two outdoor patios is smoke-free. This visit earned Liberty Tap Room another star.

Slow slow service. Ribs ok. Food bland. Would not return. Parking sucks.

    (3)
  • Dani C.

Okay, I'm going to be honest and blunt. The ribs were really yummy and the service was very good. However, not very clean. Examples (from my one dinner there): there was a tomato seed stuck to the table when I sat down, salad leaves spilled on the floor under the table, the bowl to put bones in was dirty, and my soda glass had dried food caked on it. YUCK! One of those, I could have forgiven, but all of them together at one setting tells me maybe this restaurant is not as clean as I would want it to be. And that's just the parts I could see. I would hate to see their kitchen. Will not go back!

Just walked out of here. We keep trying this place because it's so close to our house, but never again. We've sat at our table with zero acknowledgment from any servers for over 10 minutes far too many times. The food isjust ok if you can get it, but the servers are SO lazy, slow, and rude. If you want a place to sit down and read menus, go here. If you want food, go somewhere else.

I love the ceviche and calamari appetizers. The beer selection is very extensive.

TBonz owned. Spent mucho $$$ and time to make it look like it doesn't belong to Tbonz. End result...it's TBonz with a crown and some fake Americanism. The problem with this place isn't the service - the people have been well trained to be sickly sweet (annoying), it's that it is suffering from an identity crisis. What are ye? Tap room, specializing in a multitude of silly-named beers, a family place - not., or basically a bar menu what ain't supposed to be a bar menu. The kitchen is hard-pressed to understand their role due to the managements idea of, "Hey, let's make this a place for everyone. Win." Not so much. Msg. for Management - wear something nicer than a shirt I would wear to go kayak fishing. (hint) The food is OK, for a bar/kitchen, although the mac n' cheese, which was praised, came out of the salamander ICE COLD -- never seeing the inside of an oven -- and the medium-rare burger, which was tasty (liked the brioche), was not medium-rare but medium. If you don't like the smell of fish, don't eat here. It smells like fish due to the raw bar right at the front door. BTW, valet parking...FAIL. Restaurants - don't do it. Let people park their cars themselves. Please. All in all, do yourself a favor and go get Melvin's BBQ, Whole Food pizza, or a salad somewhere and save the TBonz experience, because it's far from the best place to eat in Mt.P, just like the original TBonz. Word.

  • Bill M.

Part of the TBonz franchise and one of 4 Liberty locations, this place was pretty average. What was good: - They brew their own beer (in Myrtle Beach, shipped to this location). The Wheat and the Summer Ale were very good - The wood-grilled salmon. It was a large piece of salmon with a very good grilled flavor. - Nice outdoor seating. What was not so good: - The wife's Wasabi Tuna sandwich. The fish was cold. Sure, the fish won't be hot if ordered rare but it shouldn't be cold. Further, it was a bad cut of tuna. The wasabi dressing was sparse. In the end, there are too many places to hit for dinner in this area to ever go back here.

My husband and I spent a few days in Mount Pleasant house hunting, he had been down previously and had eaten dinner at Liberty Tap Room and so we tried it again. I can't say enough good things about the food, or the service. We sat in the bar area and actually came back 3 times. The prices are extremely reasonable, you cannot get food like that at those prices in DC. I love the dressing on their house salad, the filet was great as was the asparagus served with it. Hope we get back there soon.

In our sad, sad departure from Charleston, we had a going away slash birthday shindig in the upstairs area of Liberty. This, and the many other occasions that I've dined/drank here over the 5 years have shaped a well-rounded impression of the place. The food at Liberty is consistent, delicious, and somehow manages to be casual bar food with a sassy little kick in the pants. They have great wings, an Ahi tuna appetizer that will always impress, creative sandwiches, and a brunch I will always recommend. They also have a pretty decent happy hour - which is a blessing as we come to find more and more restaurants doing away with such deals. All this being said, I've never had anything I didn't like here. Having gone to Liberty like a shablillion times and having so many nice things to say, you're all like, "Colleen J., Why only four stars, you old scrooge?" Because I've had a few times that I've experienced pretty rude wait staff... but it is typically far and few between. The manager, Mike, is great - and does his best to accommodate his customers. I can't recommend this place enough for the casual environment, food, and overall versatility; great for lunch, dinner, brunch, happy hour or even just a small get together.

One of the best happy hours! Great food and drink specials! They have blue cheese ships that are really good. You can get their wings grilled and they are better that way! Their burgers are really good, as well as their steaks. As for drinks their manmosa is very tasty! Occasionally they will have sangria, and it is really good. Personally like the red wine sangria the best! If you have a party or event to plan, libertys is perfect! They have rooms you can reserve and will have bartenders and wait staff set to wait on the party! All at no charge. They also serve kaminskys deserts. Tollhouse cookie pie heated with ice cream is a perfect way to end a great meal.

Liberty Tap Room is a nice little place if you're in the mood for a great beer selection and a pretty decent menu. The service is great. Every time we've been to Liberty we've had a great time. The location in Mt. Pleasant is really nice, off of 17. They have a small pond near the restaurant where there is always aquatic life for kids to watch, mostly turtles. The food is a good mixture of classic American and Southern soul food. Today I had the jerk chicken sandwich, but I've had the burgers and wings in the past. The food never disappoints and like I said the beer menu is great. They have a good selection of local craft brews for the patron looking for a cold drink. I highly recommend Liberty Tap Room.

Was at the tap room to watch the auburn football game today with the auburn low country association. Our waitress was great. She always very sweet, had a smile and my glass of sweet tea was never empty. Also the wood-fired wings were fabulous, blackened and smoky.

A typical tap room. Big bar, lots of good beer. I wish I had more to say but I don't really. Maybe another time. OH the deviled eggs were sooooo gooooood, I ordered a second batch!

So the menu for Sunday brunch has changed. Drinks have gone up to $3 which is still a great deal so no biggy. However, they also changed the recipe for the chicken and waffles and I have to say that I am not impressed. It used to be my favorite bunch item but now it is a little lacking. The chicken fingers are not crispy and you only get one small sized waffles. Really?! For $10 you can't spare another two ounces of batter?! The syrup is also different. I'm really sad. On the bright side the breakfast burrito was still tasty!

I can't help but love the Ahi Tuna sandwich! It's topped with ginger, wasabi mayo, and seaweed salad. Mmmm. I'm also a fan of the Liberty Nut Brown beer, but when all beer pints are $3 on Mondays, go ahead and try everything. Service has been good the few times I've visited. There hasss been a wait to sit in the bar area, so other than timing your night out right; no complaints here. I really like Liberty for happy hour and dinner!
